FostercareSojourners provides community-based foster and respite care to children and adolescents from Southeastern Ohio.  Many of the young people served have struggled with multiple placements and Sojourners seeks to stabilize this movement cycle.  Sojourners uses a well trained and committed team of foster caregivers and a warp-around model of care to ensure positive and engaging environments for the young people it serves.

Foster Caregivers

FostercareThe success of the Sojourners foster care network depends on a team of dedicated
foster caregivers.  Foster caregivers must be 21, but can be single or married, working or retired.  What is most important is that potential foster caregivers demonstrate the qualities and attributes essential to fostering, including attentiveness, tenacity, patience, and empathy.  The process of becoming a foster caregiver includes attending an information meeting, completing a family history and background check, having a home visit, and attending a pre-service training.  Foster caregivers receive a competitive per diem rate, reimbursement for mileage and training, and other benefits including monthly food donations.

Levels of Care

Crisis Respite/ Host Home
Crisis Respite/Host Homes provide short term (1-3 day) emergency care designed to help stabilize young people until they can return to their home environment and to provide a break for families in crisis.

Family Foster Home
Family Foster Homes are care settings for young people who need temporary, out of home placement.  These young people have basic parenting and supervision needs.

Treatment Foster Home
Treatment Foster Homes serve young people with behavioral or developmental issues.  These young people traditionally might have been served through residential treatment centers or another institutional type setting.
