Serving Through ConservationOutback Bridge Project

The Ohio Outback Conservation Corps is an AmeriCorps program of Sojourners, headquartered in McArthur, Ohio.  The Outback affords men and women a unique opportunity to take part in natural resource projects benefiting the Southeast Ohio region.  The spirit of the Outback encompasses a love of nature, the out-of-doors and a sense of stewardship of our natural environment.  Members of the Outback must commit to a year of service with the AmeriCorps program.  During this year they learn natural resource and environmental restoration skills including landscaping, recreation site management, and heavy equipment operation while working on conservation projects at state parks, area lakes, and other community recreation sites.  Outbackers also engage in several community service projects throughout their year of service.
A year of service with the Ohio Outback Conservation Corps impacts the lives of members in several positive ways. Members are challenged to understand civic responsibility and engagement and gain a unique perspective on rural and Appalachian issues.  Members receive intensive training and support, a living allowance, health insurance, and an education award following the completion of their term of service.
